Goals

The involved schools will implement debate as a teaching method in English lessons and various other lessons (Ethics, first languages, History, Biology, etc.). Consequently, this teaching method will turn into methodology, because debaters as well as teachers are forced and urged to research debate motions and stuff connected to them.

During the project, students’ gained knowledge is shown in debating in either short periods of lessons when they express their oppositional or proposition opinion or in face-to-face & online debates where they evaluate critically different ideas and viewpoints, draw conclusion, present a convincing argument, explain their viewpoints and try to persuade others to think again.

By setting success indicators, teachers evaluate and assess students’ skills on writing argumentative speeches and debating twice (once at the very beginning of the project and once before the end of it). Teachers will evaluate argumentative speech (form, content, language correctness) by applying formative assessment.

Each partner school will try to establish a debate club unless it already has it. Partner schools will develop mutual collaboration in blended learning and online debates.

The project handbook called “A brief Debate Handbook with pedagogical Tips for new Debate Teachers” will be used in classrooms, debate clubs and at home by students and teachers who will implement debate in their occupations.

Keen debaters in upper classes will share their knowledge among younger and inexperienced debaters in school debate clubs as well as in lessons when ever needed.

Keen debate teachers will share their knowledge, experience and examples of good practices among their colleagues, students and parents.
