Our Fifth CRIMSON Mobility in Greece

 CLASSROOM DEBATES

The First Day: The teams from Slovenia, Turkey and Serbia arrived on Monday 6th March to Drama. Our activities started on Tuesday.

All the students and teachers were greeted by the principal of the host school in Drama Georgios Koutsoukis. After that, students from all four countries participated in the morning activities. They worked in smaller groups where they discussed and prepared the motion Important Heritage Items Should be Returned to the Countries of Origin. In the format of ‘Boxing match debate’ students were able to confront their opponents in a new surrounding supervised by their teachers.

The next workshop was used to strengthen the students’ confidence. It was held, again, in smaller groups in a format ‘Balloon Debates’ led by their teachers.

Meanwhile, the coordinators of the project discussed the future project activities and continued their work on the Debate Manual.

In the afternoon we walked around Drama in a guided tour led by Greek teachers.

The Second Day: The students debated on the topic Important Heritage Items Should be Returned to the Countries of Origin in the Karl Popper format. After that, students were asked to write argumentative essays on the topic.

In the afternoon, the coordinators and teachers planned and organized the last mobility and other activities in accordance with the project.

The Third Day: It started with an impromptu debate. The motion was Holidays in the Mountains are Better than Holidays at the seaside. They had around 45 minutes to prepare it than in Lincoln-Douglas debate (two people debate) they gave their arguments for or against the topic. They were able to rebuttal and they showed their speaking skills at their best. The students were asked to write opinion essay on the given topic.

The rest of the day we visited the ancient town of Philippi nearby and the town of Kavala at the seaside.
