TEACHER AND STUDENT TRAINING
The First Day: The teams from Slovenia, Greece and Serbia arrived on Sunday 14th May to Afyon, Turkey. Our activities started on Monday.
The day started at Nehriman-Ibrahim Kucukurt Ortaokulu School where all the teachers were welcomed by the principal Ibrahim Diyar and the staff. In the school conference hall, the project coordinator and the teachers organized two activities. The first one was ‘Speaker’s Corner’ where all the students could practice giving a public speech on any topic they hold dear. The second workshop was organized as ‘A Speech Contest’ where our debaters competed in holding individual speeches on the topic Bullies should be suspended for a week.
The Second Day: In the school conference hall students prepared the motion Bullies should be suspended for a week in the form of Speed-dating activity. We shadowed Music lesson taught by Aysegul Narin. We attended a Turkish language lesson taught by Husein Turan where pupils debated on the motion Digital technology makes people happy in Turkish language.
In the afternoon, we visited the old town centre of Afyon.
The Third Day: English teachers from Slovenia and Serbia Marjetka Bunford-Selinšek and Biljana Visnjić organized a workshop for students and teachers. The experienced debate students led mini workshops for their peers to teach them how to prepare their speeches, write them and participate in a debate on the motion The Internet is better for learning than the teachers.
The whole group shadowed an English lesson on holidays which was very successful. The students participated in the PE lesson. Meanwhile, the coordinators and other teachers held a meeting on dissemination of the project. All the schools prepared the reports on the ways they disseminated the project throughout these three years of the duration of the project.
In the afternoon, we visited the centre of the modern Afyon as well as Afyonkarahisar Museum.
The Fourth Day: In the morning, there was a debate in Karl Popper format on the motion The Internet is better for learning than the teachers between two mixed groups of debaters from all four countries.
Students have written two essays on the above topics during this mobility. They were tasked to write an argumentative and an opinion essay (Bullies should be suspended for a week and The Internet is better for learning than the teachers).
We visited ancient Phrygia with unusual natural and historical background.
