RHETORICAL PROS & CONS
Due to Covid restrictions, we decided to organize our three-day-meetings online. The host school was our partner school in Turkey.
The first day: Greek lecturer Mr Serhat Toker introduced debate as a classroom activity to school representatives, talked about Karel Popper Debate Fomat, argumentation and effective use of language tasks.
The second day: Mr Miha Andrič, Director of ZIP national Debate Organization in Slovenia, incorporated lectures and workshops in his activities where warm-up tasks, lead-in tasks and argumentative strategies were discussed. He gave teachers some brief tips containing useful rhetorical and argumentative techniques. Participants faced troubleshooting exercises and discussed new ideas in post-debate discussion and assessment.
The third day: Teachers were challenged to discuss various strategies to enhance their rhetorical skills by Marjetka Bunford Selinšek who leads a debate club at the Primary School Franceta Prešerna Maribor. They participated in several different workshops to learn debate vocabulary and techniques to improve oral presentations. They debated among each other and were exposed to a lot of practical work. The interactive workshops were full of communicative, public speaking, argumentation, effective usage of language tasks.
The ideas of warm-up tasks, lead-in tasks, questioning, cool-down activities and required debate vocabulary were fostered in all partner schools.
