Our Third CRIMSON Mobility in Belgrade

DEBATE TOURNAMENTS

The First Day: The teams from Slovenia, Greece and Turkey arrived on Sunday 9th October to Belgrade, Serbia. Our activities started on Monday.

The day started at France Presern Primary School where all the visiting schools gathered. The students participated in a workshop Building Arguments led by Andreja Radakovic, Research Associate at University of Belgrade – Faculty of Organizational Sciences.

In the meantime, the coordinators held the meeting in the principal’s office. They discussed the programme and future project plans.

Students joined English language class with teacher Biljana Visnjić. They discussed if Pop art is real art. All the students needed to write essays on the subject as their homework. Students also participated in Technology lesson with teacher Slavica Mitrović. Kahoot and Genially were used in the class for checking students knowledge.

In the afternoon, all the Erasmus students went on an Open-bus Tour around Belgrade. Later, students attended escape room where they had a lot of fun.

The Second Day: Official Project CRIMSON Presentation and Presentation of all schools was held in the school library. It was attended by Milan Pasić, the Deputy of the Minister of Education, Miloš Simić, the Presidents of Rakovica Municipality as well as a few principals from the surrounding schools. The Project was presented by the principal of the Serbain school Biljana Blagojević, while the Deputy of the Minister of Education greeted the debate practice which has been introduced into school. Debating in a primary schools in Serbia is not a regular practice while debating in English is rear even in secondary schools. Erasmus students also praised the project which gave them an opportunity to practise English and to learn to connect things and think logically. The Maribor students presented their school through presentation. The Debate Club is an important part of their school life. They also presented a short debate for the guests. The schools from Turkey and Greece also presented themselves.

In the afternoon, the whole Erasmus group had a guided tour of Kalemegdan.

The Third Day: The Debate Tournament was organized on Wednesday and Thursday. There were six teams. There were three debates at the same time as the first round and three debates at the same time as the second round. The adjudicators were the teachers and Belgrade Erasmus students who have finished primary school the previous year and were a part of the project. Students from the 8th grade were the audience.

In the afternoon, the Erasmus students and teachers visited St. Sava’s Temple and Nikola Tesla Museum.

The Fourth Day: The third round of the Deabate Tournament was held in the morning in the same way as the first two. After the three rounds the two best teams one from Slovenia and the other from Serbia met in the final. The adjudicators were English language teachers and coordinators Marjetka Bunford-Selinšek and Biljana Visnjić. The winners were the team from Slovenia. They were rewarded by a special debate cup and lots of chocolates.

This wonderful day ended with dancing in the school hall where all the school and guests gathered.
